OVERVIEW
NavMath is an iPad-based practice tool designed to build confidence and fluency in aviation navigation maths.
It provides structured exercises covering core flight-navigation and mental dead reckoning calculations — including wind correction, heading and track, groundspeed, drift, distance, time, and fuel.
Students can practice at their own pace, moving from guided step-by-step modes to timed test environments that replicate the pressure of real assessments. Every session receives immediate feedback, with correct solutions shown and progress tracked for review.
Built for ab-initio pilots, air combat officers, navigators, and other aviation trainees, NavMath allows repeated, focused practice outside the classroom, upporting skill retention and confidence in flight-critical maths.
PURPOSE
NavMath bridges the gap between classroom instruction and operational readiness by giving students a portable, low-cost way to consolidate essential navigation maths skills.
By combining repetition, feedback, and progress tracking, it helps students identify weak areas early and achieve mastery through consistent practice.
The app supports both self-directed study and structured training programs where instructors can assign specific modules or monitor development.

Development and Growth
NavMath was designed to evolve with aviation training needs. Its modular structure allows new practice modules and question types to be added over time, keeping the app relevant for both military and civil programs.
Upcoming additions include:
- Whizz-wheel / flight computer exercises for practical calculation practice
- Randomised question banks to ensure every session is unique
- Quiz and challenge modes for exam style preparation
- Expanded analytics tools to help students track improvement and instructors identify trends
These developments will be introduced progressively in line with training priorities and available program support.
